A Story About The Background

When developing this website, I didn't want to follow the common abstract styling of modern websites and wanted to keep it simple, hint at the center margin text box and ‘classic’ layout. However, I really wanted to add some spice to it. I've found some inspiration on other websites by using an interactive background using a simple JS script. I thought it would be really cool to include an aspect about some of the key points of this website. After trying different ideas, I eventually landed on trying to mimic the look of some of the pressure waves in 2-Stroke engines. Unlike some 4-stroke graphs, I've found that many 2 Stroke engine simulation outputs have a very wavy aesthetic to them. So I implemented this into the background.

Untouched, the background is just simple sine waves on different phases. But when you click and drag, the amplitude ramps up to mimic this wave style from simulation. Completely unnecessary but a fun feature to implement.
